ETS Live® To Go App Reviews

A start but lacking

To be a contender in this field you have to do more that a simple schedule lookup. You NEED: Current location lookup and what buses are nearby (see transitapp). Notifications of when my bus will be here. Directions from point a to point b. Also it would be great if this app could hold my bus pass/ fate products. Look at how the Starbucks app works with the Starbucks card. I just scan my phone with the app open. Take it to the next level guys! For now Im sticking with transitapp and Google. Even the ETS2GO website does more ;)

Yeah, its really that bad.

This app is a joke. Preexisting knowledge of the bus routes and stops is necessary in order to use it which pretty much renders it useless. Definitely just stick to google maps.

fail

if you are new to YEG one would assume this city created app would be THE app to use - FAIL users have to know the city and ETS system first. instead of building from what you know, why wouldnt you build for what users dont know????

A good start

A good start but doesnt give anything new over the website.

Not user friendly

Was any research done on what people really needed out of an app like this? Doesnt seem like it. Suggestion, look at other apps such as Transit 360 and their user friendly features, then go build an app from the city, for the Edmontonians. This is embarrassing. And Im not even just talking about real-time tracking, theres so much more that can be done.

They missed the demo audience.

Now while the app does work and does everything they said it would it assumes you know the bus stop numbers and routes. And if you knew all this already then you wouldnt need this app. Stick to google maps. It works better for the everyday person.

Happy

I am very happy with this. I was always in need of such an app to replace my calls to ETS. This app is accurate, easy to use and I do not need to call ETS any more. But I am not sure if this app can tell us if a bus service is not available in a certain days or hours.

Google Maps is still better..

Its a start, and is helpful if you want to know the schedule of all of the buses, but not so useful for finding the right buses to take to get where you want to go. If thats what youre looking for, downloading Google Maps and using the transit setting is probably a better option.

Actually the worst transit app Ive used. TransitApp is the way to go. Nice try Edmonton, but it needs to much work.

Please make data available for other apps!

IF you are near a stop with one of the newly live-monitored bus lines, and want to see when the next bus is REALLY going to arrive, this app will fairly quickly tell you. This can be extremely valuable. Otherwise the app falls well short of competing transit apps such as Google Maps, or Transit. Edmonton Transit did us all the favour of making its schedule data available for serious app developers, and I hope they will do the same (perhaps they have already?) with the live data. Then we have nothing to complain about. For managing transportation in Edmonton I recommend Google Maps or Transit. The latter provides quite a bit of useful information even when you have no internet access. But neither seem to have incorporated the live data yet. This should be a goal for ETS!

Needs improvement

Its handy app to use to check for schedules, but to quickly find a route and associated times, Google maps is far simpler and more powerful. Its a start but definitely not a competitor.

Really??

I installed the app but have yet to actually see it work...constant technical difficulties error message.

Barely works

I tried the app and made it work for me, then I tried transit app and wont look back. Dont waste your time with this app, use transit app instead.

Terrible

Unless you know your stops or routes, you are screwed. Search for stops..... Try 101 St and Jasper Ave. Nope. Suggestions start at 104 Ave. and go north. Try Jasper Ave. Nope. Starts around 114st. Tried nearby stops. Cool. View the map. The database is not queried based on the new map location. Cant get stops based on that. Screwed I am. Do not advertise this app as being helpful. Tourists will just get frustrated. Ive lived here for 60 years and I cant use it.

Transit App is better.

Focus on providing data to third parties so money can be allocated to other uses.

Good app

Very useful and easy to use. Helpful finding bus stops. It estimates bus arrival using the bus gps. Great for daily commute or to explore the city

Functional for ETS connoisseurs...

Although one who is well-versed in bus-stop numbers, locations, transfers, etc. would find this app useful (and indeed it does have its uses at times, although only in conjunction with an app like Transit, which is actually capable of calculating routes between locations and providing a user-friendly interface), I would not recommend this to anyone who is not extremely familiar with (or at all remotely new to) the ETS system. On top of it all, it feels as though the absolute minimum amount of effort was put into the UI, which is clunky at best. You know you app is lacking when the first item in the Help section outlines How to use the help section.

Disappointed

Live location for all the busses is the only solution. The buses are never on time. Tracking is a must and only alternative to -40. Also save yourself some money by making the data available to other 3rd party transit apps as these apps usually do a better job.

Needs a lot more

Theres so much potential for this app to be great... but its not. It would benefit greatly from adding system maps and a form of the Trip Planner from the website. I was hoping for something that would replace my frequent trips through my browser but this isnt it. Hopefully it will be soon.

Stick to google maps

Okay everyone was telling me that it was going to have the buses in real time but it doesnt. The app is confusing. To even maneuver in and you cant fingered hardly anything out. Save yourself the hassle and download google maps instead. Way more helpful than this.
